Becoming Allies with Our Creative Energies

We are creative Beings, we create our unique experience by focusing our energy in a particular way.
Our current creative process begins as a thought, which inspires a feeling, which invokes a physical reaction.
When we begin to slow down and get present the first thing that we notice, is there is a lot of thoughts in our head that we don’t seem to be thinking….
These are conditioned/programmed thoughts. You have created a pattern of thoughts based on your previous experiences. Because of the constant demand to move and do, we have put our minds on auto pilot. This allows us to react quickly and with little thought so that we can be more productive.
What we often find is that these automatic thoughts are self-defeating, judgmental, even shaming. These thoughts evoke negative emotions that then create a negative physical response. These responses can range anywhere from stress or depression to behavior that is self-sabotaging.
Taking control of what we are creating starts with changing the way that we think. This can be quite challenging, but with the right tools and present moment awareness we can begin to see and feel the results of our work very quickly.
Writing down frequent thoughts and then beginning to consciously replace them with thoughts that reflect your new beliefs and discoveries.
As you begin to notice your thoughts you will also begin to notice how your thoughts create your emotional responses. Understanding how your thoughts are making you feel will make it easier to reach for better feeling thoughts.
You will also begin to notice how you are reacting to your emotions and the consequences of those reactions. Once you are able to observe your creative process from a curious, non-judgmental place you will be able to easily move out of old patterns by creating new ones that create a much better feeling experience.
Once again, I have made this all sound very simple and the steps are simple, it’s the journey itself that can become the challenge. Many thoughts are just repetitive and with a small amount of awareness and practice they can easily be let go of.
While other thoughts are attached to deep seeded beliefs from as far back as childhood and will need more time and focus in order for you to shift and let go.
As is always true, it is important that you be patient with yourself. Being hard on yourself only makes it harder to succeed. Instead be gentle, listen to yourself. Notice how you are feeling and what is triggering those emotions and if you are uncertain, it’s okay. It’s okay to struggle, it’s okay to have hard days and it is okay to do your best and not like the way things turn out.
It is important to honor how you feel and allow the feeling to pass, before trying to implement any changes. Holding space for how you are feeling is a very important part of our healing. We cannot change how we are feeling if the emotion has already been created, we must honor it and allow it to express itself in a healthy way. Sometimes this might look like crying, other times a few deep breaths and sometimes a creative outlet like painting or dance.
The point of this awareness is not to change how we are already feeling. It is to stop creating unnecessary suffering by changing the thoughts that trigger the emotional suffering. If we change the thought the negative emotion will not be created and won’t need to be felt. It’s a sort of preventative medicine.
However, to begin with the work is unraveling what we weren’t previously aware of. As with all self-discovery there is no end goal, no place to arrive or right or wrong way to get there. It is important that we acknowledge our success often in order to encourage ourselves to keep practicing. What we believe about ourselves guides everything we do.
