Creating Flow in Your Environment Part 1 Clearing the Clutter

“It doesn’t really bother me,” said everyone who didn’t want to deal with the pile in the corner or the clutter in the closet. And maybe at first it didn’t, but with time it continues to grow and now the pile has taken over most of the free space in the room and the closet clutter is only being held at bay by a door that must have been forged in a magical force field.

Interestingly enough, this is also how we deal with our energetic blocks!! We tell ourselves that something doesn’t bother us and we stuff it down, believing that it is not affecting us. All the while, things are triggering these blocks and making them bigger and bigger, causing us to have to work harder and harder to keep them hidden!!

Our external environment is a direct reflection of our internal environment. I mean it makes perfect sense, you are using the energy that is inside of you to create that which is showing up around you.

So if you are wondering how open you are to energetic flow, taking a look around your home, office and even your vehicle can be a great indicator.

Clearing out your physical space can help support you as you learn to restore your natural flow. Whether or not you maintain the clutter free space can indicate how well you are maintaining your personal flow.

Having this physical indicator can be extremely helpful in maintaining our awareness. However, it is important that you do not OVER DO THIS!! It is so easy for us to fall into the belief that if my environment is clean, I can ignore my feelings!!

It is SO important to notice how you feel and to not force yourself to be or feel something that is not authentic. If this practice causes guilt and resistance, it may not helpful, you may choose to consult with someone you trust to help you decide if you need additional support or if you should look for a different tool. Remember, everyone needs what they need and what heals one may poison another. Do not beat yourself up just cross it off and look for another solution.

I cannot emphasize enough that it is important to be gentle and notice. Sometimes the resistance that we have built up is very heavy and hard to overcome. Take it one step at a time. DO NOT overwhelm yourself with unreasonable goals or expectations. Find a balance that allows you to do what you can and to refocus if you start to become overwhelmed.

Depending on your situation you may find that your clutter is directly tied to your emotional blocks and so you will be working through your blocks as you clear and organize your physical space. This can happen when there is sentimental value for things that we no longer have space for.

Be gentle with yourself, take the time to decide what is important to you and why. Think about why you are holding onto certain things and what you hope to gain by having them around. Often we are dealing with a loss or feeling of loss and we fear that letting go of material objects will solidify the loss or dishonor a memory.

If we are deeply attached we may find that we have to move through this process slowly, organizing and getting rid of things a little at a time. This allows us time to heal and let go on our own terms and is absolutely healthy as long as we feel good about our progress.

This can be a very emotional process and we may need outside support. If we are grieving or dealing with trauma or deep attachment or abandonment issues this process, that seems so simple to many can be an overwhelming and seemingly impossible challenge.

If you are struggling asking a friend or family member who understands and can meet you where you are for help and support can be a great solution. However, we must be willing to accept that many may not understand why we are struggling and will actually deepen our pain with judgement and force.

In these cases there are many professionals that specialize in supporting those who struggle in this area. From Private Counseling to Personal Organizers the support is out there!! In some areas there are even volunteer services available.

As I said before as you begin don’t overwhelm yourself by setting unreasonable goals. You didn’t make the mess in one day and chances are you won’t be able to clean it all up in one day and that is perfectly okay!!

Notice what you would like to do, decide where to start.

Often it is best to start with something that will feel like you accomplished a lot in a short time.

It is best not to get too caught up in the details. Start with a keep and trash/donation focus.

Work for a bit and notice how you are feeling.

If you’re feeling good keep going!!

If not take a break, go outside and sit with yourself.

Get curious.

What are you resistant to?

What are you thinking?

How are you approaching the situation?

Are you expecting it to be unpleasant?

If so can you shift? Can you find joy in what you are doing? Add some music? Time yourself and see how much you can accomplish in 20 minutes. Make it fun.

If you still feel resistant, stop. Ask yourself, what do I need right now?

Whatever the answer is go do it now!!

When you have taken care of your needs, decide whether it is best to go back to the task that you were working on or if it might be helpful to work on something else for now.

Let this be a process. There is no right or wrong. We limit ourselves in so many ways by deciding how something should be done, instead of just doing it the best we can.

If you can spend 5 minutes per day clearing out a space that has been piling up for 6 months that is progress!! If you are able to clean one space a month for six months and somewhat maintain all the spaces at the same time that is HUGE PROGRESS!!

If find that you are constantly cleaning but nothing is getting done, this can be due to a lack of focus caused by resistance that we aren’t aware of. Again, stop and sit with yourself. How are you feeling? Are you overwhelming yourself with unrealistic goals? How can you center yourself and focus on one thing at a time creating a sense of confidence and accomplishment? How can you slow down and notice when the mess is being made and how you can shift your behaviors to better serve your environment?

If you find that the clutter returns as or more quickly than you can remove it, this can indicate that we are stuck in an old pattern of behavior that while painful we aren’t acknowledging it. We are using stuff or distractions to keep us from having to feel or deal with it.

Allow yourself to sit with this idea. Does it bring anything up for you? If so continue to listen and notice what you believe and how you feel about your situation. Then ask yourself what you can do to feel better.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help with this process, it is easy to get stuck here. We may have been avoiding seeing this for ourselves for many years and it can be difficult for us to identify what is keeping us stuck without some outside perspective.

Clearing our environment of the clutter is the first step to creating a space that supports us in our natural flow and highest vibrational potential.

In my next blog we will learn about adding things to your space that bring you joy and create beauty and flow within your home or other spaces.

If you are looking for support as you work through this process, Reiki and Personal Guidance can both be beneficial tools. Distance sessions are currently being offered at great Discounts during this time of Social Distancing. Visit www.crystalclarity5.wixsite.com/awakening for more information.
