Intuition is the first of the 5 Spiritual Senses and the first of the 3 senses that will create the vibration of Christ Consciousness within us, Most people easily acknowledge and accept this sense and will even openly admit that they notice it but often don't follow it.
We call it our gut instinct.
The book describes intuition as the soul speaking to the mind through "feelings".
It says that it is a clairsentient message that is communicated by the soul through a feeling in the body and then interpreted by the brain.
If we are not accustomed to following our intuition then the signal will usually be very subtle and easily dismissed and the loud voice of the Ego or the Critic is followed instead. When we have deep trauma it makes it even more difficult to discern from intuition and trauma response as these responses like intuition are deeply connected to feelings.
Another reason we often dismiss our intuitive urges is it is that the mind has been trained to take the safe road most traveled can easily use logic and limitations to dismiss this intuitive calling to move in the way that best aligns with what we want to create, in order to play it safe.
In order to truly benefit from our intuition we must slow down and begin to practice following it.
One reason we often ignore the intuition as it says above is that what it is guiding us to do is often not the most logical or safe choice. Intuition often asks us to act illogically in the present moment without thought.
Our programmed minds have been trained to do the opposite, to consider the possible outcomes and to take the safest road. What the logical mind does not consider is that the intuition knows more than the mind can conceive and is not only confident but certain that things will not only go better by following it's guidance but that the choice we make will actually align with our highest good and the highest good of all, which may be uncomfortable, painful or uncertain, all things the logical mind has been programmed to avoid!!
So,,,,, If we can reprogram the logical mind to believe that following our intuition is not only safe (it may be uncomfortable but it is always worth it) but that it is actually more beneficial then we will be right on track.
Seems simple right, let's just teach the brain something new and it will be wonderful!! Well it is a very simple concept, however reprogramming the brain to respond differently can bring up a lot of resistance in us. This fear is deeply ingrained in our psyche and requires patience and consistent investment to create lasting change.
One of the hardest parts of this journey is TRUST!! The logical mind has a hard time trusting something beyond the 5 physical senses that have been practiced and proven tried and true. The logical mind also struggles to act against what previous experience has taught it. In the past we may have made impulsive decisions that did not work out for us and our minds use that as reason to shy away from trusting not only intuition, but itself. On top of that many of us have experienced traumas and abuse that have caused us not to trust our own judgement even when it seems logical and safe. And because of our inability to trust ourselves in many cases we are currently enmeshed in toxic relationships (not just of the romantic nature) that are maintained by the other person constantly second guessing and questioning our decisions and opinions or us needing constant reassurance from the other person that we are making the best decisions for ourselves, which is something that they can't know.
Now that we know what needs to happens: reprogramming the minds automatic responses, and why it will be a challenge, let us begin to cognize what to "Do" about it. I put the word do in quotes for a very good reason. The feeling of needing to "Do" something in order to fix the fact that our intuition isn't working, this is another block to our Natural Intuitive ability. We are trying to learn or unlearn something that actually comes naturally. Trying to learn how to use your intuition is like trying to learn how to breathe. You can't learn how to do something that you can't not do, right? Our intuition is always working, we are just not aware of it.
So, let's use the idea of breathing to help us drive this point home. Consider that unawareness of or ignoring the intuition is like holding your breath. We know that if we hold our breath for too long only one of two things can happen we are forced by our natural will to survive to breathe or we pass out and the body then returns to it's natural state of breathing. Breathing is natural and necessary for survival, so despite it's best efforts to control the breath the mind is no match for what comes natural!!
The same is TRUE for intuition. Intuition is as natural to us as breathing, but just like when we are under extreme pressure or stress the brain limits the breathing in an effort to control and protect, it does the same to the intuition.
So the doing here is really just getting the brain out of the way so that we can sense the intuition and act on it without question in each present moment.
So, what is the key to getting the brain to trust the intuition? Giving the brain repeated experiences that show it that it is not only safe to trust the intuition but beneficial, gratifying and so much better than playing it safe.
How do we do this? By allowing ourself to slow down enough to first notice the intuition, push through the resistance to it and follow it's guidance as clearly as we can and then be sure that the brain notices and appreciates the outcome.
So, we mentioned above this is simple, what it is not is comfortable!! Even though it is natural our minds resistance and the bodies reaction to it can make us very uncomfortable. We can use our coping tools to work through this discomfort as we follow our intuition. Once we have followed through it is important that we consciously note the outcome of the situation. Each time that we successfully hear and follow through on our intuitive pulls and acknowledge a successful and beneficial out come we are showing the mind that it is okay to get out of the way and allow intuition to guide us. Another aspect to consider is that intuition and follow through are present moment actions and so the more we are able to let go of our attachment to past experience and focus fully in the present the easier it becomes for us to both sense and follow our intuition without resistance.
As with all things your journey to restoring this natural gift to yourself is uniquely yours and will require you to follow your own path of least resistance. I encourage you to remember that while your path may look different we are all on the same journey and finding commonalities amongst our differences is just another key to healing. As you explore your intuition remember that support from and connection with like mind individuals as well as your Source energy will propel you forward. Don't hesitate to reach out, knowing that you will find the support you need. We are all just walking each other home.
In the next blog we will look at the second of the spiritual senses telepathic communication and how it ties into intuition.
Until then Namaste
