No Time But The Present

Dr. Wayne Dyer author of the book Be Here Now, loved to say "Either you are NOW HERE or NO WHERE."

What he meant by that is that the present moment is the only place where anything ever happens and if your not present, then your missing out on life and you are really no where.

Think about it for a moment you can't change the past, so if you are spending your present moment in the past that you can't change isn't that a waste of the moment........

As we continue to navigate the uncertainty that each day of 2020 brings us, present moment living is calling to us louder than ever. We can no longer plan or predict what tomorrow will bring the way we did just a few short months ago. So looking to the future isn't any more productive than looking to the past.

What is certain, is this moment and when we are fully present in each moment we can create a whole new experience for ourselves. When we master present moment awareness, we move from a place of struggling with the past and future. We move past a need to struggle at all in fact. When we are able to be fully present there are only opportunities to expand.

With that being said, present moment living is one of those things that we hear a lot about and probably think that we have a good understanding of this concept. However, I have found that there is always a deeper understanding and new level of awareness that can be found when we take the time to examine things. So let us take a few minutes to explore what it means to be fully present.

When we are truly present, we are fully aware of what is happening in each moment. We are not thinking, instead we are consciously experiencing life as it is unfolding before us.

We are able notice the details of what is happening and how we feel in response to them. We notice how our outward actions are affecting our environment and the people in it and how our environment responds to that affect.

We begin to appreciate and move with this cause and effect in a way that empowers us to a new level. A level that allows us to create our own experience, by focusing on what serves the greatest good in each moment.

There are infinite things that we can become aware of in any given moment........ as we get better at practicing presence we will also get better at deciding how to best focus our consciousness in each moment.

In order to master this practice we must first become familiar and comfortable with ourselves in a new way. We can begin experimenting by being present with the following and allowing ourselves to witness the unfolding that is constantly happening in each of these places:

Our thoughts- even those of us who have practiced meditation and mindfulness often struggle with our thoughts. It is because our minds have been programmed since birth to watch out for danger. In order to do so effectively and also to prevent bad things from repeating themselves our minds carry us into the past and future most of the time.

The purpose behind thought awareness is to notice which thoughts are helpful and which aren't. Thought is step one in our creative process. When our thoughts are intentional, so are the results that we experience. When we are focusing our thoughts in the present moment we guide our creative process and our experience intentionally.

Our emotions- This another place that we can potentially be taken into the past or future due to unprocessed emotions i.e. energy blocks. This is the most important part of our experience. There is nothing more important to us as humans than our emotions. How we feel guides everything else from our beliefs, behaviors and interactions. When we are able to be present with our emotions, they become a guide post for us to create our experience from.

Our behaviors- being present with our behaviors can help us to see how our behaviors are directly affecting our experience and how they are linked to both our thoughts and our feelings.(behaviors are usually automatic due to programming, unprocessed emotions and an unwillingness to recognize and change old patterns)

Our Environment- being present in our environment allows us to notice how we are interacting with, being affected by and affecting what is around us. Our environment will always reflect to us what we need to notice in order to grow to our fullest potential. When we are present in our environment we become aware of what we may be avoiding in our thoughts, emotions, or behaviors.

Our Energy Exchanges- Our relationships also reflect us. When we are present with how we are relating to those around us, we can become clear on how we are relating to ourselves.

Our Body- When we practice present moment awareness with our bodies we begin to understand its signs and signals in a new and different way and our able to activate its fullest potential. Being present with your body is being still enough to hear what the body is telling you it needs, whether that's water, rest, food, pleasure or anything else.

Being present with Nature, your breath, a great song or anything else really can only be beneficial.

As with all things the more you practice the better you get. And with this practice the better you get the better you will feel!!
